1993 Mercedes 190e (air blower problem)

Friday Jan 29, 2010

This is the sounds my air blower makes when turned on and off on different levels. The cost of this repair and parts for it is expensive, so I am trying to find out some of the reasons what could be causing this awful noise.

Thanks for your help

I´m not sure about …
I´m not sure about that jacket :O) .. Because that whistle sound is really getting on my nerves.
But fortunately, it has not been under 0.C the last few days.
But I think im going to save up some money, the next month or two.
i don´t think there is no other way out of this.
Except, that i thought about going to a scrap yard, and salvage a decent motor..

Yup, that seems to …
Yup, that seems to be the price here too.

Makes you want to say forget the blower all together and just buy a $600 winter jacket instead.

Such a cash grab that piece of equipment is, I wish it were at like $200 or $250 total, and I would do it right away.

Mine started to do …
Mine started to do the same thing when the temperature dropped. I had it re-lubed last year and it worked fine for a year, but when the temp dipped it went back to making the sound.

We basicaly need to buy a new motor for it and cages.

Now thats a nasty sound :O(

My air blower ( MB 190E 1,8 – 91 ) is making this weird howling noise, sounds kind of like a bird.

But only when the temperature is below 0 degrees C. out side.

Well, what was …
Well, what was thought to be okay, is now having issues again. Seems like Canadian winters (regularly -15 or less here) do not treat this guy well.

Looks like I am going to start looking for a new motor.

I have this very …
I have this very same problem with my 1992 190e (2.3) and the only solution is to replace the motor.

I would not bother with a used/salvage motor, unless you’re absolutely sure about the condition. It is a hassle to access the blower motor (I’ve experienced this before.)

Please note that allowing things to continue can lead to more significant issues!

Good luck.

YAH, i could have …
YAH, i could have told you it was a blower motor, this same thing happened to mine. If you want, the motor itself is about $100, and replacing it isn’t too bad. The only thing is, the cages on the old motor must be put on the new one, if you want to save money. They are difficult to get off, but if you use a blow dryer to heat the area where they are attached, they will eventually come off.

The problem was a rusted rod in the blower motor. It has since been fixed but will need to be replaced soon.
