Does anybody have any experience or advice regarding a 2002 Mercedes-Benz C230 Kompressor?
Posted by admin | Under Mercedes Benz History Tuesday Aug 4, 2009I’m interested in purchasing a 2002 C230 Kompressor Coupe. It has 71,000 miles on it and is in great condition. It’s equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission and has a full service history. The asking price is about $10,000. Does anyone own one of these cars or know anything about them? Is there anything I should be worried about?
great car, have it inspected first by an independent mechanic.
they are cool to drive and sportive a bit snobish but who care, have fun and enjoy your life.
good luck mate.

hi, the only thing that you should be worried are the parts and maintenace cost.Since you have a car with full service records it could be a good buy.Have a thorough Test drive first.

I had an ‘03 C230 coupe w/ 6speed manual but it’s not exactly the same vehicle because the ‘03 was the first year to introduce the new M271 1.8L supercharged engine. The ‘02 was the last year to use the M111 2.3L supercharged engine. The M111 can be a little coarse when starting up (the supercharger also acts as the air pump so when it’s first started while cold, it can be rather loud and sound unrefined according to some people). It is however a proven and reliable engine. The 6-speed transmission isn’t bad. Although it’s a relatively small thing, what I didn’t like about the coupe with a standard was that the E-brake is foot-operated, not a handbrake. That can make hill-starts a little tricky because you have to lean forward slightly to grab the brake release handle while finding the clutch friction point. Like everything else, you get used to it but I didn’t like it when I first had the car. Another thing to get used to is backing up the car. The curved glass in the lower portion of the rear hatch distorts objects somewhat so it makes it a little difficult to judge space when in close quarters (such as backing into a garage).
On the plus side, it is a very comfortable car to drive and it has excellent fuel economy when driven conservatively (although that fuel economy nose-dives if you drive the car hard and engage the supercharger often). If the coupe has the panoramic sunroof, you’ll love the way it the light just comes into the cabin. Well, at least I did. The coupe also drives very nicely and it is quite versatile as well when you fold down the rear seats it offers a lot of cargo room.
As with any used vehicle, make sure to make it a condition of sale to have the vehicle inspected by a dealer or other shop familiar with the car you’re interested in. Spending a few dollars now on a pre-purchase inspection can save you thousands later in unanticipated repairs.
