Its absolute rubbish. 45w per channel? Its less than half that, at best. The onboard GPS device constantly needs resetting.
You just cant jump in your car, pop in a postcode (TomTom only has 4 digit postcodes, so wont get you anywhere useful unless you pop in the full street name etc). This unit will sit and wait and reset and wait and poweroff and reset… Then your driving along and bam! Satnav kicks in when it feels like it. I have driven over 80miles before it decided to find a signal.
Its been fun to use for a few days, but its going to be r-i-p-p-e-d out of my car this weekend and replaced with an Alpine unit.
Then, I am gonna stick a screwdriver through its screen and send it back.
There is no issue with TomTom itself, the software has been great, but the onboard GPS device keeps spazzing out every 5mins.
This unit is just like all the other cheap double din rubbish on the market, but with much better advertising.
I really desperately wanted an Xtrons after seeing the videos on youtube etc but mine is flawed. I havent heard such a quiet HiFi since I drove a Daewoo Lanos years ago. The Xtrons cant even give a good signal to my AMP/SUB so no sub woofers… Even changing the cables didnt make any difference.
My Xtrons gets HOT. I mean, really hot. The back of the screen isnt warm to the touch its baking hot! Eject a disk or SD card and you’ll think “this is way too hot, how does this unit not destroy everything that goes into it”.
Radio signal is awful. The screen has a mind of its own, press a Photo icon and the screen starts to open, then you have to go into Settings to close the screen.
Driving on a slightly rough road sends the Xtrons Super Anti-Shock into a spin and the disk loads and reloads. I am driving a Mercedes, my cars smooth as slik, one little jolt and my Xtrons keels over.
Disappointed with this unit big time.
Its cheap built, noisy mechanisms inside, quiet audio, invisible buttons on the screen that do weird things, GPS device reset all day long, it runs super hot, the screen colours can vary during DVD playback, GPS reception is poor, the touch screen moves around inside the front facia, Xtrons themselves dont care –
Wheres my warranty? Best I could get out of some bloke at Xtrons was “so what…”
Their site says “We will replace any faulty items should there be one within 7 days from purchase”. So, not a 12 month warranty then… Explains why the chap from Xtrons was so rude to me on the phone.
Please dont waste you money on these Chinese head units, I saw older versions and some 2009 Chinese Double Din head units in peoples cars and assured myself Xtrons would be the best of the bunch. Its not, its exactly the same junk.
I am sure some of you will love the fact they are cheap and offer so many features. Thing is, if the main features of these units dont work well, whats the point in them? The TomTom software and iGo8 and Route66 both suffer from the onboard GPS devices constant resetting.
I am not going to fork out a grand on a head unit from a branded manufacturer either. Better I just stick with a ‘Real TomTom’ and leave the car’s HiFI to play music.
Plus touch screen HiFis take your eye off the road. I am a driver, I want booming audio and the ability to change tracks without touching a screen to bring up a menu, then looking for a tiny marker button to swap tracks. Which is right above the on screen eject button, bad ergonomic design guys
Seems all these units are made by one manufacturer, then rebranded, they build an entire series per production run and made minor changes to the facia and TV or GPS cards. So, if mines faulty, then yours is bound to have some issues too. Glad I am not alone…
Alpine… Save me from this Xtrons !

Depends on the person. I think depending on the year and model of the Benz I would watch as it went by and probably take note of the person driving. Most people would think of it as a prestige thing or someone that has the money to afford it and doesn’t mind enjoying their wealth.
Mercedes Benz rolls out the new CLS 63 AMG. A high performance biturbo V8 mit 557 horsepower and a new sports chassis promise loads of driving fun.
