The Mercedes-Benz SEC Series

Sunday Nov 22, 2009

The Mercedes-Benz SEC Series.

This is a picture of my gorgeous car. What style! One thing you can say about Mercedes, this car looks as good or better than most cars on the road today and it’s about 18 years old.

Although Mecedes hold their value as well as any auto, if you want a cheap Mercedes, look at an older model. I picked this up for a few K and it still feels like a 50K ride.

Repairs on a Mercedes aren’t cheap, but you can replace a lot of parts for what a new car would cost.

Can a salvage title car with a good carfax history be good?

Friday Nov 27, 2009

Please check this website: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___MERCEDES-BENZ-C320-EXCELLENT-CONDITION-LOW-RESERVE_W0QQitemZ120321642919QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item120321642919&_trkparms=72%3A1187%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

I don’t like salvage cars it could have been under salt water. Or it could have put back together. You will have problems and it will cost to fix that type of car. If it costs $200 buy it but be ready for some issues.

What is the cheapest insurance for a new Mercedes Benz?

Wednesday Nov 25, 2009

I just bought a MB C230 and Im wondering if anyone has experience on which insurance company has the cheapest rates for these vehicles in general? I know it depends on driving history, credit, etc etc… but I dont want to go back to AllState…

No such thing. Unless you paid cash for it, the lender will insist on full coverage insurance, and based on the costs of repairs, parts, replacement and value, no insurance will be cheap.

How much to respray a mercedes sports c class model year 2000?

How much to respray a mercedes sports c class model year 2000?

There are several different answers to this question. I’m assuming by respray you mean paint the entire vehicle? If this is the case there are several items that will effect the overall cost. The first is color, if you’re changing the color the door jambs, underside trunk lid, and underside of the hood all have to be painted. This can get rather costly due to the amount of disassembly required. If you’re sticking with the original color or don’t mind the jambs, etc being “off” then you can expect to pay around $1,900 – $2,500 for a mid-level paint job. This will include the removal of all trim, minor dent repair, and of course a base coat/clear coat paint system. If you’d like to opt for the high level package that includes extreme attention to detail you can expect to pay upwards of $4,000 for the paint work. The result will be a better paint application than what came from the factory! If you’re at all inclinded to work with vehicles you can avoid a large part of the overall cost by doing the prep work yourself. This can range from removing the trim all the way down to sanding the vehicle and taping it off for the body shop in question. Talk it over with your local shop and ask them to itemize their labor in the quote, you may be able to perform many of the labor tasks they include yourself. On a final note if you’re looking for a budget paint job you can probably find a shop willing to do the work for $700 or so. This will result in a 10 foot paint job….from 10 feet away it will look fine. Hope this helps!

What are the typical repair costs for a 1982 Mercedes Benz 300D?

Wednesday Nov 25, 2009

I’m considering buying an older Mercedes Diesel, probably around an ‘82. I like the style of the 300D and love the gas mileage. I’m looking at one with around 175k miles. However, I have no idea of the costs to repair/replace parts. I know this is a pretty open question but I really don’t know what to expect. Any help you can provide is much appreciated. Thanks!

With a 25 year old car, it depends on condition. If you get one in good shape, you’ll have fewer maintenance issues than any modern car. Repairs will be simple, and parts cheap. The only things that you may find disturbing are that the oil must be changed every 2500 miles, and the valves need to be adjusted every 15K miles.

You should probably go down a preventative maintenance checklist as soon as you buy the car:
1) Change all fluids and filters: air, oil, transmission, differential, and power steering.
2) Replace all the little rubber vacuum connectors in the engine compartment. Also any aging fuel hoses.
3) Check the driveshaft flex disks, and replace if they are cracked or dried
4) Inspect the ball joints and tie rods, and replace anything that’s loose.
5) Replace the motor mounts and tranny mount.
6) Replace the engine shock absorbers. These are little shock absorbers that control engine shake.
7) Install a clear plastic fuel filter in the main plastic vacuum line. The reason for this is that a failed vacuum pump will destroy your car. Installing a clear filter will allow you to see when this happens in time to prevent more damage (black oil will appear in the filter)
8) Replace the glow plugs
9) Get yourself a box of german fuses in 8, 16, and 25 amps. Also a couple of strip fuses for the glow plugs. Keep these in the glove box, you’re going to need them soomer or later.
10) Replace the battery (it’s nearly impossible to jump start a Diesel with a gasoline car).
11) I would also replace the master cylinder, it’s the one thing you don’t want failing on you.
12) Adjust the valves, check the pump timing, inspect the vacuum switch valves, and clean the Alda fittings.

All of this might cost $1000. When you’re done, you will have a solid, reliable car.

I’ve owned 123 body Diesels, and I’ve never been disappointed. My present car is a 201 body, a 1987 190D turbo. A quarter million miles, and I think I’ll keep it a while.

Which convertible Mercedes-Benz are the largest in exterior size?

Wednesday Nov 25, 2009

Is there a exterior size comparison chart anywhere online? (Inches, photos?)
I am looking at the 1996 – 2006 group, could I make it a larger range? LOL! Ideally, 2003 – 2005.

Remember the SEC series?
Those are the largest.
2003 and newer? I would go for CLK series, it is just as large as the ‘E’class.
One more thing I like to highlight, the CLK inherited the electronic extension ‘arm’ from SEC series for the safety belts holding.

Have 2001 clk Mercedes Benz convertible switch for the convertible top is blinking?

Tuesday Nov 24, 2009

Does the 2001 clk Mercedes Benz convertible have a switch for the convertible top which is blinking while trying to raise the roof

The top must be put back into the stowed position. Push the release levers back to the locked position. Lock the top motor in place (push it upwards from inside the trunk after removing the inner trunk trim panels) Next- have someone press down on the top lid while you press the motor back into place (left SIDE of trunk) You may have to let up and press down on the cover a couple times to get it to fully engage. Next- (trunk closed) turn the key to the ON position and hold the top button in the top DOWN position until you see the top lid cover move downwards. That should be it all that is required. Hope this helps!!

I am looking to find a company that makes a trailer hitch for a 2010 mercedes (E350 sports version)?

Wednesday Nov 18, 2009

I would prefer someone that can furnish the hitch, wiring harness and installation. The closer to Tampa, florida the better.

not to sound like an a**hole but who in their right mind would use a Benz car to tow anything, if you want a Benz and use it to tow to then you should have got one of the SUVs not one of the cars

BMW 650i Convertible and a Mercedes-Benz SL500 Convertible?

Tuesday Nov 10, 2009

I’m deciding between a BMW 650i Convertible and a Mercedes-Benz SL500 Convertible. Both are black and have sick rims/tires as well as comparable options. I’m wondering which would be the better car to get in terms of shock value, looks, speed, and overall performance. I’m just coming off a CLK 320 and I loved it, but I’m looking to upgrade. I like to show it off, so that plays a huge role in my decision.

Thanks

omg. you are choosing between two of my favorite cars…..

Well, I have driven a benz and a bmw, and i have to tell you, i like the Mercedes drive MUCH better,

I drove the X5 as my first far, its nothing compared to the 6 series, but the steering wheels for BMW’s are so stiff, and i just really dont like the drive. Otherwise, the 6 series is the sickest car ever. Especially in black. Thats hott.

However, Mercedes are like family to me.. Ive driven a CLS500 and a CLK550, and i think they are just amazing..

SL500. Very Classy.

But, where you live plays a major role in your car buying decision. Where i live, i see a lot more BMW’s 6series than Mercedes SL500, so thats a factor. I would buy something that not everyone has.

but on this question.. id have to betray mercedes and say 6series… its just so hott. and your getting it in black too, which is perfect. im jealous..
